Labor Day Weekend is upon us! You may have an idea of what you want to do or not the slightest…WE GOT YOU COVERED. Whether you get an extra day off this weekend or not, hopefully you will have some time off in-between to take some stress off your shoulders. There is a lot happening in the metroplex this weekend. Treat yourself or the whole family, either way we have something for everyone here. Right away, here is a list of events & things to do in the Dallas-Fort Worth area this weekend!
FRIDAY (August 31st)
- State Fair of Texas Rodeo (Friday & Saturday)

Held by UPRA (United Professional Rodeo Association) in the Fair Park Coliseum, this rodeo is the first state fair rodeo in almost 30 years. The event will feature youth & adult participants competing in qualifiers for the UPRA finals as part of the UPRA “Cowboy Till’ You Die Tour”. Granted the actual STATE FAIR itself doesn’t open until September 28th, this rodeo is a new addition to Fair Park and a prelude to what’s to come this season. The rodeo kicks off Friday night with doors opening at 5:30pm, performance at 7:30pm with another performance at the same time the following day on Saturday. Free parking through gate 12. Tickets are available to purchase as a package deal. You can purchase tickets here starting at only $18 for both nights upwards to $25 for box seats. Kids 3 & under free.
- Riverfront Jazz Festival headlining Erykah Badu (Friday-Sunday)

The event is presented by the Black Academy of Arts and Letters & kicks off on Friday night at 6:30pm. There will be 34 artists present at the festival with smooth jazz, R&B, soul, & blues harmonizing in this exhilarating venue in Downtown Dallas. The atmosphere at Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center should be electric every night of the festival & on Friday night at 9:00pm Erykah Badu hits the stage for a performance to remember at this second annual festival. Tickets are available here for $55 general admission each day or there are multi-day passes available with a full artist line-up here. This festival made a hit last year for the great performances by all the artists & smooth velvety mood that traveled throughout the evening.

Admission & Parking is FREE on Friday. Saturday & Sunday tickets are only $7 online and $10 at the gate. Bedford’s 10th annual Labor Day weekend festival brings live music & BBQ to the city of Bedford (location here!). Pitmasters throughout the U.S. bring their A-game to compete against one another with attendees able to sample their best BBQ! There will be Blues artists & bands that go hand-in-hand with this finger licking good time just around the corner from Dallas or Fort Worth with an artist line-up here! Gates open at 6:00pm on Friday & 2:00pm on Saturday and Sunday. The festival winds down at 10:00pm each night so get there while you can! There is a reason this is the 10th year going strong! - Jurassic Park Movie IN CONCERT! (Friday-Sunday)

It’s been 25 years since Jurassic Park was released & we fell in love with dinosaurs as well as the captivating music of John Williams within the movie’s most important moments. The music seemed to excite you in anticipation of would happen next. Go visit this event at the Dallas Symphony Orchestra as they perform John Williams’ legendary score alongside the movie live projected in HD. Arrive early & take pictures by the real-life replica Jurassic Park Jeep from the movie & participate in pre-concert lobby activities. Admission for this awesome event starts at $29 & up. The concert starts at 7:30pm on Friday & Saturday night & 2:30pm on Sunday. Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind experience & get your tickets & information here!

SATURDAY (September 1st)
- Dino Fest 2018 at Perot Museum of Nature & Science (Saturday & Sunday)

If the LIVE musical performance of Jurassic Park isn’t enough, then pair it with this perfect unique event at the Perot Museum in Downtown Dallas. Featuring dino dig pits, new paleo lab, live music, beer garden, paleo talks, guided tours, dino trivia, & art activities. With all the fossils & artifacts the museum offers they also have a unique augmented reality dinosaur experience that puts you up-close with life-size dinosaurs in a realistic 3D experience. Dino Fest hours are Saturday 10:00am-6:00pm (beer garden open until 7:00pm) & Sunday 11:00am-4:00pm (activities end at 4:00pm, museum exhibits stay open until 6:00pm). - Invasion Car Show: Pre 1964 Hot Rod & Kustom Show (Saturday only)

The Invasion Car Show hits Elm Street near the Trees venue with hot rods lining the street. Admission is free for those that make the trip to the Deep Ellum neighborhood. These pre-1964 cars invade Deep Ellum between 10:00am-6:00pm. ATTENTION car enthusiasts or those just looking for something to do, everyone is welcome to enjoy the classic event with these one-of-a-kind designs that make you mouth the word WOW as you pass every car up & down the street. With so many things to do in Deep Ellum you can easily make this a day-long affair soaking up the scenery, stopping by the eateries, watering holes, or retail shops in the vicinity. Location here!
- North Dallas Toy Show (Saturday only)

These toys will blow your mind, vintage & new, they are sure to give you nostalgia. Located in the Dallas Events Center in Farmers Branch this show kicks off at 9:00am-3:00pm. Tickets are only $2, children under 12 enter free of charge, & there is free parking. There will be door prizes & a raffle every hour this. Don’t miss it! SUNDAY (September 2nd)
- Deep Ellum Mimosa Walk (Sunday only)

Tag lined as a “Sip & Shop” experience, the Deep Ellum Mimosa Walk is just that! Join together, brings your friends & check out local merchants on this self-guided tour throughout the neighborhood shops. Check-in tables open at 11:30am and the walk is from 12:00pm-3:00pm. It’s encouraged to get a presale ticket here for $15, otherwise tickets will be $25 the day of. It is noted that the event will sell out & tickets are limited, so get them now! Nothing like enjoying your day off sipping on champagne!
- Labor of Love Homebrew Festival: Deep Ellum Brewing Company (Sunday only)

The Labor of Love is a culmination of different beer tastings of homebrew teams that are from the DFW metroplex competing against each other to win best in show. Enjoy live music, food trucks, & great unique beer. This “Labor of Love” will take place in the field right across from the Deep Ellum brewery.
